Represent: A Social Creativist Project 2025

Starting in February and culminating at the Lichfield Arts Fuse Festival in Beacon Park in July, REPRESENT was an exciting outreach project created by Nurture Community CIC in collaboration with Transition Lichfield. This Social Creativist initiative explored how we created and expressed identity through the choices we made about what we wore and how we represented ourselves.

What was REPRESENT about?
In a world increasingly driven by fast fashion and social media trends, the project explored how we could support the next generation to express their identity in more ethical and sustainable ways. REPRESENT invited participants into an important conversation around self-representation, ethical fashion, and mindful consumption.

Reach and Impact
The project reached over 500 people across 15 groups, engaging a wide range of ages and communities. Sessions were delivered across diverse settings, including education settings, prisons, retirement homes, and with individuals experiencing isolation. This inclusive approach created safe, creative spaces for expression, connection, and meaningful conversation.

What participants experienced
The project began with engaging, hands-on workshops where participants created identity bracelets from reclaimed materials. These creative sessions not only sparked imagination but also acted as a catalyst for deeper discussions around identity, sustainability, and personal values.

Mental Health and Well-Being
Self-expression and self-care were central to the project. Collaborations with mental health charities supported the promotion of well-being, while creative activities provided a mindful space for reflection on identity and emotional needs.

Community Engagement
REPRESENT included opportunities to take part in community-based sessions such as the Lichfield Repair Café, encouraging local involvement and accessible participation. Sessions were intentionally kept small to enable meaningful engagement, with additional facilitators supporting larger groups where needed.

Broader Outcomes and Legacy
The project concluded with the development of updated community resources, including a refreshed brochure highlighting free and low-cost wellbeing-supporting services, as well as mapped locations for the Growing Communities programme. These outputs ensured that the impact of REPRESENT continued beyond the workshops, supporting ongoing access to community, nature, and wellbeing opportunities.

Working Together
REPRESENT brought people together to explore identity, ethics, and care—helping to shape a more mindful, inclusive, and sustainable future for self-expression.
